Why HMU Exists

We're Not Trying to Replace Uber.

Drivers don't need another platform for GPS. They don't need another middleman taking a cut of every fare. HMU was built for the Urban Driver-Preneur — the driver who has Cash App, Apple Pay, can collect their own cash, and may have several other ways to make money. We do the one thing rideshare apps were ever actually useful for: we validate that the rider can pay before you burn gas. That's it. The rest is yours.

Uber and Lyft commission ranges reflect typical driver-reported take rates and vary by market, ride type, and surge. Membership-app pricing reflects publicly listed daily access fees. HMU figures are computed live from the active deposit-only pricing config — see the worked example below for the exact breakdown.
Wait — Membership Apps Are Cheaper, Right?

$25/day Isn’t “Low Monthly Fees.” It’s $750/month.

Some apps charge as much as $25 a day for the privilege of driving on their platform — and call it “low monthly fees.” That’s $700+ a month before your first ride. If you do 3 rides a day, your first 2 are paying for the app — not your gas, not your time, not your kid’s shoes. We don’t do that. Free to join. Free forever.

Honest Answers

What You’re Probably Wondering

So what does HMU actually take?+
On the deposit-only launch model: 20% of the deposit (with a $1.50 minimum). On a $20.00 ride with a $8.00 deposit, that's $1.60. Drivers keep the cash remainder directly.
Do I have to take cash?+
No. Riders can send the cash portion via Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, Apple Pay — anything that works for both of you. HMU’s job is securing the deposit so you know they’re payment-ready.
How is this not just another middleman?+
We charge once — on the deposit. Not on tips. Not on the rest of the fare. Not on a monthly subscription you have to keep paying whether you drive or not. We’re a payment validator, not a fare collector.
What if a rider stiffs me?+
They can’t book without authorizing the deposit. If they no-show or cancel after you’re on the way, you keep the deposit. That’s the entire point.
Why is it free forever instead of free for 30 days?+
Because “free for 30 days” is a sales tactic, not a business model. We make money on the deposit, when you actually do a ride. If you don’t drive, you don’t pay. If you drive a lot, you still don’t pay a subscription. There’s nothing to cancel.
